Traveling with New Braces

Traveling with New Braces

by | Dec 1, 2022 | Dental Hygiene

New braces bring a lot of change. It can be a lot to get used to, but your orthodontist is here to help. Traveling with new braces can feel complicated, but not when you go prepared. Here’s our list of must-haves.

Things to Pack

Before you travel with braces, it can be helpful to start by making a list of everything you want to pack to make sure that you’ll have everything you need when you hit the road.

We recommend starting with the typical necessities like your toothbrush, toothpaste, dental picks, floss, and mouthwash. If your braces are new, make sure to also pack some of the wax your orthodontist gave you to help keep your mouth comfortable on your trip.

Things to Shop For

While you’re packing, you might notice that you’re running low on some supplies. When you travel, it’s always best to bring extras of items so you won’t run out in an unfamiliar place.

It’s also a good idea to get extras of travel-specific items like dental picks that you might want to use when you’re on the go and it’s tough to find a place to brush and floss your teeth thoroughly. Having a few extra packs of dental picks to keep in your backpack, purse, or car can help you make sure you’ll always have them handy when you need them.

Travel Snacks

While you’re shopping for braces-care supplies, you might want to grab some snacks for the road, as well. When you’re traveling, it can sometimes be difficult to find braces-friendly food. Getting extra hungry and having limited options can make it extra tempting to eat foods that might not be safe for your braces.

Bringing your own snacks is the best way to make sure that you always have braces-friendly food on hand no matter where you are. It might turn out to be easy to find braces-friendly food on the road, but this way you’ll always have a backup plan just in case you find yourself in a pinch and your stomach starts grumbling!

When you go prepared, traveling with new braces doesn’t have to be stressful, it can be fun, exciting, and easy!
